Four gunshots ignited the Iraqi streets again

Strengthening the security filewas and still is one of the basic demands of Iraq's citizens. Even though thesecurity forces controlled the assassinations, However, the subject of an assassinationattempt on one of the workers in the municipality of Al-Amarah angered thecitizens and increased their concern about citizen safety in the governorate.And since security is one of the most basic needs of a citizen, it seeks toguarantee. Therefore, it has become necessary for the Iraqi government andsecurity forces to intensify their efforts to ensure citizens' safety andprotection. In this report, one of the demonstrations monitored by themonitoring team during the first half of April / 2023 in Maysan Governoratewill be reviewed:

  • Maysan Governoratedemonstrations 4-15-2023

On Saturday, at 4 pm, a vigil was organized near the Maysan Police Headquarters, to protest against the deteriorating security situation in Maysan. As a result, the protesters demanded the Maysan Police Command take control of the security file. They also demanded that they investigate the case of an attempt to assassinate the deputy director of Maysan Municipality, Eng.

Theemergence of assassinations worried the Iraqi streets. As soon as the page wasturned, a shadow cast over the Iraqi street again.

The second attempt was by throwing a grenade into his garden. And the third attempt was to shoot him, hitting him with four bullets, after which he was taken to the hospital, and this was indicated by - a security source - that - Al-Saadi - an engineer working in the municipality of Al-Amarah, was shot by unknown persons in a private car, a salon, who intercepted his way in the Gulf region, downtown Amara. Pointing out that the victim was hit by four gunshots on April 3rd, 2023 while on his way to work in the municipality of Amarah. He was admitted to the intensive care ward at the Martyr Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital, and his condition is unstable. According to one of the demonstrators, Al-Saadi's condition is unstable and a finger was amputated from his left hand while he is still being treated.

He said - one of thedemonstrators - that they denounce the killings and repeated attacks in theprovince and demand the prosecution and accountability of criminals whoterrorize citizens and the government to control uncontrolled weapons and theelimination of organized crimes, which began to witness in the province again.Demonstrators say the situation has deteriorated in the Maysan Governorate. Aswith al-Saadi, this is regrettable, so the security forces must take serioussteps to resolve the security file.


In the media, news of theshooting was circulated on many TV channels, in addition to social media,including Facebook and Twitter. As for security, security forces remainedneutral during the demonstrations. Their work was limited to opening the roadand organizing the gathering without clashing with the demonstrators.

The reasons for the demonstrations / the demands of the demonstrators


By reviewing the demonstrations and events in several Iraqi governorates, it becomes clear that the most prominent reasons for their launch are as follows:


  • Work on the security file in the province.
  • Holding armed gangs accountable
  • Putting weapons in the state's hands

 

Notes on security authorities' handling of gatherings:


During the demonstration, the security forces cooperated fully with the protesters. And they maintained professionalism in dealing with the issue, although the demonstrations were peaceful. The security forces played a positive role in maintaining their integrity by dealing professionally with the demonstrators. They also took into account the emotional aspect that the demonstrators were experiencing. Due to the assassination attempt that took place. Therefore, it can be said that security forces began to deal more positively with demonstrations. This gives the impression that security forces are prepared to deal professionally and legally with demonstrators.
